Curls of Eggplant (Set of Three)
For years, a close friend called me “Red”. It wasn’t the most original of nicknames for someone with red hair, but I loved it every time the word came out of his mouth. So you might be able to imagine how it felt the time I walked into a famous NYC salon as a red head and walked out with eggplant colored locks. That purple hair did no favors for my fair skin and freckles, and that unfortunate botch job also happened only a few days ahead of an important formal event. I didn’t have any time to get it corrected before showing up to see family and friends. Over 30 years of hindsight and perspective makes this hair incident seem so silly. And in many ways it really is. But if you've ever had your identity wrapped up in your hair color, or any other unique physical attribute, you know it isn't about vanity; it's like having a personality trait taken away from you in the snap of a finger - or in the 2+ hours it takes for hair color to process.
It may not be the healthiest thing to define my character based on my physical appearance. But most redheads seem to carry similar qualities of fire, passion, and a way of being impossible to ignore. And even as age strips my hair of the color I was born with, I will always be a redhead at heart, and it's not something anyone can take away from me.
This set of three holds that color, deep eggplant and violet moving through all three pieces, unapologetic and impossible to look past. Rich pink and blush open up the space around it, warm gold breaks through in patches like light catching on something metallic, and touches of deep burgundy and red pool in close, the way that hair color never quite let you forget it was there.
**Please note that the colors in these pieces shift and change depending on the light of the room they live in, as well as the reflective quality of the metallic and pearlescent pigments. Photography captures one moment in one light - in your home, these pieces will reveal themselves differently throughout the day.
