I wore it to a sorority party, as the date of a guy I had a huge crush on, though we were only going as friends. I had no idea yet who I was becoming. But that night, in that dress, with deep red lipstick I thought of as my power lipstick, I felt beautiful and strong, while everyone else around me wore black.
