Cacao Along the Nile (Set of Two)
On my spiritual journey through Egypt in 2025, I set an alarm every morning, sometimes for the middle of the night, so I wouldn't miss my ceremonial cacao before the day's adventures began. On these mornings, I would make my way up to the deck of the boat, sometimes while it was still dark, sit down alone, and watch the Nile River move past, black and silver, quiet except for the engine somewhere below me. I could have used that extra hour to sleep. Nobody would have known. But I hadn't come to Egypt to sleep through it. I came to meet myself in it, and that hour, alone with my cacao on a river that's carried people like me for thousands of years, was where it started.
This pair holds that hour, dark water, first light not yet arrived, something ancient and something entirely mine. Soft pink and beige rise through both pieces like the earliest edge of sunrise, and burnt umber and gold catch within it, warm and glowing, the way light moves across a desert sky before the sun itself appears.
**Please note that the colors in these pieces shift and change depending on the light of the room they live in, as well as the reflective quality of the metallic and pearlescent pigments. Photography captures one moment in one light - in your home, these pieces will reveal themselves differently throughout the day.
