Still Life has the quality of something discovered rather than made - the kind of surface you find on ancient stone, or the underside of a leaf, or the floor of a forest that hasn't been disturbed in a very long time.
Warm cream and soft blush move through this piece in quiet, irregular layers, with moss green and olive threading through like something living pushing up through the surface. Dark umber veins run through the composition like fault lines or root systems, holding the whole piece together from underneath. Flashes of chartreuse appear in the detail like new growth catching light, and the overall effect is cool, still, and deeply alive.
This piece was made with presence, breath, and complete surrender to what the paint wanted to do.
